Woolsey M. Kane

January 23, 1921 - August 10, 2018

Woolsey (Will) Kane lived a full and good life. Born in Port Chester, NY, he was a graduate of Fordham University (BS) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MS). He married the love of his life, Alice-Hogan Kane, in January 1945. She was his lodestar until she passed in 2007. He missed her every day after she was gone. ·

He served his country for over 20 years, joining the Army Air Corps (which became the US Air Force) early in 1942. During WW2, he served in North Africa and Italy with the OSS. After the war, his duties took him all over -th e globe, his final assignment being Strategic Air Command HQ at Offutt Air Force Base. As with many who served in time of war, he rarely spoke of his service and, if pressed, would tell stories that began "I was in a bar in Ben Ghazi" or "in the officers' club in the Marshall Islands." When he retired from the Air Force in 1964, Will began a second career in the then-nascent field of computers. Will was handy man, a tinkerer and a woodworker who loved planning and making wooden toys for his great grandchildren. Later in life he became a fan of the Washington Nationals and would watch the games (and argue about them) with his daughter.

Will and Alice are survived by their sons Peter Kane (Barbara), Richard Kane, Paul Kane (Patricia), daughter Laura Loda (Richard), grandchildren Nathaniel and Lewis Kane, Sarah Wittenborn, Emily Gates and great grandchildren Oliver and Grae Wittenborn and Caleb Gates.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of St. Therese, 6262 Main Street, Gloucester, VA 23061.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, August 16, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Therese Catholic Church. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Williamsburg Memorial Park in Williamsburg. Andrews Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
