Russell Glenn "Mike" "Tight Mike" Mayo Jr. 80, passed away on Friday. May 19, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Hampton, Va. and was the son of the late Russell G. and Virginia Craigs Mayo. He retired from Pembroke Construction Co. in Hampton as a supervisor after 40 years of service and attended Petsworth Baptist Church. He was well known in the horse community and was a member of many saddle and horse clubs. He had a great love for his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Betty Carroll Beamon Mayo, his son Rusty Mayo (Diane), Kinky Mayo Sawyer (Tim), sister Jean Carter, grandchildren Rachel (Steven), Jessie (Nathan) and Kylee, great grandchildren Charley, Benjamin, and Nathia, special nieces Debbie Yakalavichy (Joe), Tammy Cerny (Jimmy), and numerous nephews and nieces.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, May 22, 2017 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. with funeral services on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Petsworth Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Petsworth Baptist Church. Andrews Funeral home & Crematory, Gloucester, Va. is in charge of arrangements.
