Priscilla Ann Howell, 87, of Hartfield, Virginia, passed away on September 21, 2026. She was born on July 31, 1939, in Rose Hill, North Carolina, to Dora Dean Howell and Zalph Howell.

Priscilla was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother whose kindness and generosity touched the lives of everyone who knew her. She was the kind of woman who would truly give you the shirt off her back and was always willing to help someone in need.

She worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant and restorative aide, a career that reflected her natural compassion and desire to care for others. She loved the residents she cared for and took great pride in her work. Priscilla was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, Chapter 58 in Gloucester.

Priscilla enjoyed the simple things in life. She loved crocheting, reading, listening to country music, and watching golf on television—even though she never played a day of golf in her life. She especially loved cooking for her family, and her chicken and pastry was a family favorite.

Some of her happiest and most peaceful moments were spent simply enjoying the world around her. In later years, she loved sitting on the front porch at Vickie and Mack’s home, watching the traffic pass by and enjoying the birds that gathered at their many bird feeders. Hummingbirds held a particularly special place in her heart, and she had fond memories of watching them at home when her daughter Sylvia was still alive.

Priscilla is survived by her daughters, Vickie Jean McCallon and Dana Lynne Pate; her son-in-law, Mack McCallon; Enid Scott, widow of her late son Frederick, and Enid’s husband, Joe Scott; 10 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by Bill “Billy” Sapp, Frederick’s lifelong best friend, whom Priscilla loved and considered another son.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dora Dean Howell and Zalph Howell; her son, Frederick Ellis Pate, Jr.; and her daughter, Sylvia Ann Pate.

Priscilla will be remembered for her generous heart, her kindness, her love of family, and the simple joy she found in caring for others. Her family will carry with them memories of her cooking, her laughter, her love of hummingbirds, and those quiet moments spent together on the front porch.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 9, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. at Peninsula Memorial Park, Newport News, Va. Andrews Funeral Home, Gloucester, Va. is in charge of arrangements
