Philip Clyde
Solada
Jul 30, 1939 — Feb 14, 2020
GLOUCESTER
Philip (Phil) Clyde Solada, 80, died February 14, 2020 following a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Mary Christine Solada, brother Daniel Solada, and sister Catherine Solada. Phil was an Air Force veteran, serving during the Vietnam War period and reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant (SSgt). He retired from government service after a fulfilling career as an Ordinance Inspector at the Yorktown Naval Weapons Station. An avid outdoorsman, he was an excellent hunter but a mediocre fisherman. He was an active member of the West Point Hunt Club and sang in the choir at the Olive Branch United Methodist Church. When not in the woods or tinkering in his garage, Phil could be found in Wal-Mart, a loyal patron, searching for just the right coffee mug to fit the cup holder in his truck. He loved his family, his work, and a baseball cap with a severely squared-off top.
Phil is survived by his wife, Rebecca Solada (Turner); two sons, Richard (Debbie) and Keith (Lora); daughter, Kristen; four grandchildren Lea, Christopher, Evan, and Emily; and three great grandchildren, Greysen, Kingsleigh, and Jamison.
A visitation celebrating Phil's life will be held at 6:30-8:00pm on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at Andrews Funeral Home & Crematory, Gloucester. A graveside service will be held the following morning at 10:00am at Olive Branch United Methodist Church on February 20, 2020. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad.
