After 97 years of life, our precious Mother, Mildred R. Wirth, entered the Heavenly Kingdom of God where scores of family and friends awaited her arrival. She was born on December 16, 1927, in Loch Haven, PA to Howard & Ruth Fye, and later welcomed her brother, Lewis Fye. She married Robert C. Wirth, a sailor, and thus began a long adventurous career, traveling to various duty stations and making friendships along the way.
Mom raised five children: James (S. Stewart), Susan and Stephen (Twins), Judi (Rudy) and Robert. She was predeceased by her parents and stepfather, John C. Poorman, brother, Lewis Fye, husband, Robert C. Wirth, and sons, Stephen, and Bobby. Mom made friends with her journey of life; with some still lasting more than 50 years! Mom always attended our band concerts (4 of us). We kept her busy during the school years and then three of us joined the military. She wrote lots of letters to us to keep our spirits up. Reunions when we returned home were a joyous event.
Mom made the best fried chicken and real mashed potatoes. She would brag that in her lifetime she only baked one peach pie in 1952 when us twins were born. The pie turned out to be disastrous.
At age 3, Mom learned to play the piano and played up until the last month of her life at Riverside Health Lifelong Healing and Rehabilitation Center in Mathews, VA (4 years). Special thanks to all the staff that cared for her during her four years residing there. A special thanks to Riverside Walter Reed Hospice Program for their kindness and compassion.
Mom was a champion Domino player, and she played her last game this past Christmas. Her second favorite game was the card game, UNO. My friend, Bonnie Diven, spent many Saturday afternoons with Mom and me at the kitchen table laughing until we cried at how much fun we were all having. Thank you, Bonnie, for making Mom's life sunny and bright.
Mom is survived by son, James, and daughters, Susan, and Judi; eight grandkids and seventeen great grandkids. She recently became a Great-Great- Grandmother but was unable to meet her due to distance and illness at the time of the birth.
Mom will be inurned in Charles Memorial Gardens in Leonardtown, MD at a later date. Andrews Funeral Home & Crematory are in charge of arrangements.
