Matthew Paul Schultz

August 12, 1989 - September 13, 2026

Matthew Schultz, a loving father and hard worker; strong, resilient, and quick to laugh, passed away on September 13, 2026.

Matt was the devoted father of an energetic and dazzling 8 yr old, Amia Schultz. He loved to hear her laugh, and would jump right into being silly alongside her; singing and dancing with her to “I’m a Little Teapot.” Teaching Amia to be welcoming, kind, and gentle with people as well as animals, and encouraging her to be open for new adventures while being appreciative of home and family connections brought Matt the greatest joy. Matt’s adoring pride of, and commitment to Amia was evident for all to see. Being Amia’s father was his heart's desire.

A lifelong resident of Virginia, Matthew lived in Williamsburg, Richmond, Hampton, Rocky Mount, and Mathews before settling in Gloucester. Here within the Gloucester community, he found opportunities for work and a beautiful place to play and grow; not only as a person, but as a father and family with his girlfriend Kelly Stewart. Matt worked for many years as a roofer, but most recently found a place within the McDonald’s maintenance team. Matt enjoyed being outdoors; whether at the beach, at one of the many Gloucester festivals/parades throughout the year, or walking trails through the woods. He especially appreciated experiences in nature alongside Amia, such as finding feathers, seeing horseshoe crabs, or finding a hidden field of daffodils in the middle of woods. His absolute favorite was hunting for fairy houses with Amia and seeing her marvel when she spotted one high up in the trees; telling her it must be a fairy house - why else would there be mushrooms all the way up there.

Although Matt had struggles throughout his life, he persevered with the desire to provide Amia happiness and a strong sense of belonging and security. In that, he succeeded. Matt passed away tragically alongside his beloved daughter and his girlfriend, Kelly.

Matt was preceded in death by his father Charles P. Schultz; Grandmother Sue Legault-Davidson; Dad Don Yeaw.

He leaves behind so many friends and family who feel the loss of his presence among us and across the country.
