Obituary

Mark Alex Hamby of Hampton, Virginia, who found his home in Gloucester, Virginia, passed away peacefully while at home with his partner Jackie Hudgins just after 11:20PM on October 20, 2023, following a too short but courageous battle with cancer. Mark was born on October 9, 1968, at the Torrejón Air Force Base in Madrid, Spain, and had just celebrated his fifty fifth birthday with family.

Mark is survived by his life partner, Jackie Hudgins, ex-wife Danielle (Hamby) Weisner, son Brandon Hamby, mother Beverly (Hamby) Gayle, father Jerry Hamby, step-mother Rose Hamby, step-father Vernon Gayle, brother Ken Hamby, sister-in law Donna Hamby, niece Lauren (Hamby) McCarron, niece Kaydin Hamby, great-niece Emma McCarron, step-brother Brent Gayle, step-sister-in-law Annie Gayle, brother from another mother Troy Fletcher, aunt Joyce Johnson, aunt Dianne Weldon, uncle Tom Johnson,  several cousins along with lifelong friends. Mark is also survived by his four-legged pack of Shibby, Julius Carter, Cooter, Hemi, Tommy and Browning who all are missing their alpha-dog.

Mark was predeceased by his paternal grandparents William Fred Hamby and Arrie Lee (Hamby) Bowman of Tallassee, Alabama and his maternal grandparents Charles Vincent Calderone and Jesse Victoria (Calderone) Korbe of Denver, Colorado.

Mark graduated from Kecoughtan High School (Hampton, Virginia) in 1986 and later trained to become a welder and fabricator at Newport News Shipbuilding. He had a long rewarding career applying his skills as a welder and fabricator. Mark loved fishing, hunting, cooking on the grill and being with friends and family. He loved sports in his younger years and was an excellent baseball player. There wasn't a body of water he wouldn't find and cast a line or person he wouldn't talk to. Mark fully enjoyed the pleasures of life through to the end.

We are sure that Mark will be reuniting with his long-lost black Labrador, Chase, finding a fishing hole to enjoy and relaxing in the sun with a cold beer at the ready. He will be missed and a bright memory for all of us that knew him.
