Kathleen T. "Kathy" Shippey passed away peacefully on September 2, 2026, following a courageous journey with Alzheimer’s disease. Born in Huntington, West Virginia, on March 27, 1953, Kathy spent her early years in Newport News, Virginia. Following her mother’s passing when Kathy was 12, she and her father returned to Huntington to be close to family. Though difficult family situations, her brilliance was evident early on as an honor student.

In November 1971, Kathy married the love of her life and soulmate, Charlie Shippey, while he was serving in the U.S. Navy in Norfolk, Virginia. After Charlie's service, they relocated to Johnson City, Tennessee. The couple returned to Newport News in 1976. Once her youngest son entered preschool, Kathy pursued higher education at Christopher Newport College. Demonstrating her characteristic determination and sharp intellect, she graduated magna cum laude in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science in Information Science.

Kathy served as President of Shippey and Associated Refrigeration until she and Charlie relocated to Jacksonville Florida. In Jacksonville Kathy served as Chief Financial Officer for D R Horton, Americas Home Builder until retirement.

Kathy was a devoted wife, mother, mother in law, grandmother and friend. She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Charles "Charlie" Shippey; her son Scott Shippey and grandson Teddy Shippey of Panama City, Florida; and her son Matt Shippey (Kelly) of Newport News, Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Kathy's memory to the National Alzheimer’s Association. Andrews Funeral Home is in charge if arrangements.
