Janet Marie Sydnor passed away unexpectedly on January 16, 2025, at the age of 71 in Gloucester, Virginia. She was born on November 28, 1953, in Richmond, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Franklin Sydnor Sr. of King & Queen, CH. VA., mother, Sylvia Louise Roberts, of King & Queen CH., VA., father, Gilbert Carrington Gammon of Richmond, VA., and sister, Linda Carole Skeens, of Anderson, TN.

Janet grew up in Richmond VA.. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1972, where she was a member of the yearbook staff and of the YMCA. Janet received a personal Letter of Appreciation for her 150 volunteered hours as part of the Red Cross Disaster Relief Team during Hurricane Agnes in June 1972 a storm that lasted 10 days. The hurricane did so much damage it led to President Carter creating the Federal Emergency Management Act (FEMA) in 1979.

Janet married her high school sweetheart Charles Balfour Howard, Jr. on December 16, 1972, and together they had two wonderful children. Though their relationship turned out to be less permanent than either of them expected, they were married for 13 years. Janet met Robert Franklin Sydnor, Sr. in 1987, and the two married on July 24, 1988, in Richmond, VA., The couple shared 36 wonderful years of marriage.

Janet was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and pets embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as "Nana", often making her famous "Popcorn Surprise." She had a vivacious personality and always made people around her feel important, listened to, and loved. She cared deeply for her family and friends.

Janet is survived by her children: Charles Balfour Howard III of Dutton, VA., and Stacy Marie (Craig) Engelson of Navarre, FL. She was also a proud grandmother to: Christian Taylor Howard of Williamsburg, VA., and Julian Thomas Howard of Dutton, VA., Breianna Marie Engelson of Orlando, FL., and Nicole Renee Engelson of Navarre, FL. She is survived by her brothers Floyd Lee (Beatrice) Lewis of Richmond, VA. and Woodrow Wilson Carter, Jr. of Richmond, VA. She is survived by her stepchildren: Sandra Kaye (Steve) Houseman of Chesapeake, VA., Robert Franklin (Janet) Sydnor Jr. of York, PA., Janice Marie (Tom) Waltz of Yorktown, VA., Patricia (Henry) Carrillo of Riverside, CA., along with 9 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Janet had many things she was passionate about. Her two biggest passions in life were her love and support for the military as well as honoring all her loved ones who served. Additionally, she was passionate about classic movies and loved watching them with her family. Her life was well lived and filled with love and family. She will be sorely missed. It's only appropriate to end with a quote from her favorite movie, "Gone with the Wind" because although we are heartbroken, "After all, Tomorrow is Another Day.".
