James (Jim) Banks passed away Saturday, September 9, 2023, at the age of 87. Jim was born in Welch, West Virginia, but had been calling Gloucester, VA home for the past 41 years.

Upon graduation from high school, Jim joined the United States Air Force and while stationed in England, met his wife of over 65 years, Kathleen. Jim proudly served in the Air Force for 20 years, retiring in 1975 from Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. Jim was also a proud Vietnam Veteran who honorably served his country during this time. Upon retirement from the Air Force, Jim began his second career as an electronics electrician contractor supporting NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia. His last job, and the one he enjoyed the most, was serving as a bus driver for the Gloucester County School System. He loved the children he transported each day and enjoyed seeing their happy faces as he safely got them to school, home, or to a sporting event.

Jim was an avid animal lover--especially dogs. His sweet poodle, Jamison, will certainly miss his nightly cuddles. Jim also had a passion for electronics and anytime you visited his home, he always had the most up-to-date electronic gadget, whether it was a new iPad, iPhone, or smart TV. He also loved working in his workshop, and you could find him in there for hours working on yet another project. Jim was a devoted husband who worked hard and loved his family.

Jim is survived by the love of his life, Kathleen, his daughter, Beverly and son-in-law John, daughter Rhonda and son-in-law Eric, grandson Kyle, granddaughter Kelsey and her husband Mike, granddaughter Rachel, granddaughter April and her husband Anthony, and granddaughter Hannah. He is also survived by four great grandchildren, Harper, Holly, Collins, and Cooper.
