Harry passed away peacefully after an extended illness on August 25 at the age of 83. Born to the late Harry Arthur Morris and Nona Pierson Harris in Williamsburg August 13, 1934, he graduated from Matthew Whaley High School '53 and joined the US Air Force later serving in the VA and KY Air National Guard achieving the rank of Major. He was stationed in Japan, South Korea, Alaska and Frankfurt, KY and other bases throughout the world. He proudly served as a tactical and reconnaissance pilot and was called back into active duty during the Pueblo Incident.
He earned a B.S. '61 and J.D. '66 from UVA. Harry moved to Gloucester, VA in 1968 joining the firm of DeHardit, Martin and Hicks. He opened his own practice shortly thereafter, serving as Commonwealth's Attorney for Gloucester 1976-1980.
He was a member of Ware Episcopal Church and served on the boards of several corporate and nonprofit organizations. Harry was always welcoming and accepting of everyone in the community and was known for his generosity and willingness to offer pro bono legal services to countless citizens, charitable organizations and whomever else might have his home phone number or address.
Harry will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him and remembered forever as a true Virginia Gentleman. Spending time outdoors, gardening, fishing, hunting, or walking was a favorite pastime.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Ann Kelley.
Harry is survived by four children, Cindy Monkouski (Bob) of Sykesville, MD; Jud Morris (Shawn) of Lynchburg, VA; Ned Morris (Ellen) of Spartanburg, SC and Hugh Morris of Hallieford, VA. Twelve grandchildren, and a great grandchild, a niece, nephew and three half-siblings, Frieda Durham, Pat Harris and Chris Harris.
His beloved companion, Connie McKee, was by his side at the time of his passing. The family is especially grateful for the care given by Debra Williams and James Flowers as well as the nurses of Riverside Hospice, Gloucester.
A visitation will be held at Andrews Funeral Home, Gloucester, 6:30-8pm, Tue, Aug 29. A funeral service will be at Ware Episcopal Church, Gloucester, 11am, Wed, Aug 30, and the Committal at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Williamsburg at 2:00 p.m., the Rev Grant Ambrose officiating.
