George Blanton Soles, 96, passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2017, surrounded by his family. He was born in Gloucester County on December 20, 1920 and was the son of the late George B. Soles and Annie Lou Purcell Soles. He was a faithful member of Petsworth Baptist Church for over 83 years where he had served as a trustee. He retired from VDOT in 1981 after 22 years of service where he was the bridge tender on the Coleman Bridge. A proud US Veteran, he served his country during WWII in the US Army Air Corps, Pacific Theater
Beside his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings Louise Bischoff, Verna Sears, and Harry P. Soles. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lucy Grey Rash Soles, daughter Mary Blanton Soles, granddaughters Ashley Jordan Stokes and Laura Grey Stokes, and sister-in-law Jackie Soles, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends at Andrews Funeral Home & Crematory on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Petsworth Baptist Church by Reverend Dennis Hollandsworth and Reverend John Pouchot. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Petsworth Baptist Church or a charity of your choice. Andrews Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
