Frederick (Rick) Warner Harvey, 78, a Civil Engineer by trade with an insatiable thirst for knowledge of all things, died on May 14, 2022 while residing in Moon, Virginia.

Rick is survived by his wife Susan Harvey (nee Ryall) and his children Lisa Marie (John) and James Bradley (Elizabeth) and grandchildren Nathan and Dexter. He is predeceased by his parents Jeanne Bradley Harvey and COL (Retired) Willian Walter Harvey.

Rick was born in San Antonio, TX on November 30, 1943. Son of an Army Colonel, Rick traveled to Europe and Asia as a young man and received a world- wide education, inspiring a lifetime in the pursuit of knowledge. He graduated from the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) with a degree in Civil Engineering before receiving a Regular U.S. Army commission into the United States Army as a 2nd Lieutenant in the summer of 1965.

Rick served 2 tours in the Airborne and Special Forces from June of 1966 to May of 1967 and again in October of 1968 to February 1969. Wounded in each tour, Rick resigned his commission in 1970. Rick was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star, (3) Purple Hearts, Combat Infantry Badge, Senior Parachute Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign medal.

In July 1969, he married Susan Ryall of England and together they embarked on a colorful journey that took them to many places around the globe ultimately settling in Chicago IL. On April 26, 1970 and April 28, 1974 respectively, he welcomed his two children, who quickly became the most important part of his life.

Rick was a devoted father and husband and an avid writer, expert sailor, pilot, amateur radio operator for over 60 years, Professor, carpenter, restoration of anything, electronics and basically all universal topics.

A funeral service with military honors will be forthcoming at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations and condolences, Rick would be humbled if you said out loud, his lifelong mantra, "You May Be Whatever You Resolve To Be"!
