Obituary

Hodges, Eleanor Lyman, on November 1, 2023. Born March 3, 1930 in Salem, MA. Already an avid reader, she majored in English at Bryn Mawr College and developed a passion for language and writing. She spent many years during the 1950's and '60's writing advertising copy for Lord & Taylor in New York City, known as the first department store in the United States and an arbiter of high style. Eleanor held a great enthusiasm for travel, making a solo trip around the world in 1961 and continuing to take river cruises and history tours throughout her life. She experimented with artisanal crafts and never missed spending the summer in Maine. She was predeceased by her husband, Lorin, and is survived by her daughters Orlanda Hayes and husband Scott, Sarah Hodges and husband Charles Newton, and five grandchildren. Following cremation, burial will be at Ware Church, Gloucester, VA in the spring.
