E. Wayne Jackson, Jr. was born November 13, 1934, in Newport News, Virginia, and passed away peacefully in Gloucester, Virginia, on January 17, 2025.

Wayne spent his early years living on the family farm (which is now the home of the Hampton Coliseum) in Hampton, Va. with his mother Louise and grandparents Harry and Maude Weber.  Later they moved to the Wythe area of Hampton where he attended Armstrong Grammar School, George Wythe Junior High and Hampton High School. He remembered with great fondness how he went through his school years with so many of the same people making many life long friends.

Wayne graduated from Hampton High School, Randolph-Macon College, and earned a degree in Bank Management from The University of Virginia. He started his 12-year career in banking at Citizen's National Bank in Hampton. He then transitioned to the petroleum business and investment sector  becoming President of Hampton Investment Corporation. He later retired as President of Gloucester Southside Insurance Co.

He was Past President of the Hampton Retail Merchants Association and a Board Member of The Peninsula Retail Merchants Association for many years. He was a long time member of the James River Country Club in Newport News, Va. where he served as Chairman of the Long Range Planning Committee and the Greens Committee. He was also Past President and Board Member of Hampton Roads Cotillion.

Wayne enjoyed many sports, but golf was his game! He won over 60 amateur golf championships. Highlights of his golf career include winning two Virginia State Championships at his beloved Cascades Course in Hot Springs, Va., and the Inaugural Mid-Amateur. He also won the Kenridge Invitational twice, the George  Peyton Memorial four times, the Valentine Invitational 3 times and 10 consecutive Peninsula Amateur Championships. Wayne played for the All-Army Team, winning the Inter-Service Championship, and competed in both the U.S. Open and the U.S. Amateur (6 times). He also set a record with 17 wins at the James River Championships. Wayne was inducted into the  Virginia Golf Hall of Fame in 2022, The Randolph-Macon Athletic Hall of Fame, and the Lower Peninsula Athletic Hall of Fame. He was the recipient of the Peninsula Sports Club Man of the Year.

After his competitive days were over, he continued to enjoy the game that meant so much to him by entering a few senior events and enjoying rounds of golf with his friends. He and his wife were both animal lovers and had a special affection for golden retrievers. But mostly and more importantly, he enjoyed spending quiet time with his wife at their home in Gloucester. They were blessed to have wonderful neighbors who routinely look out after one another.

Wayne was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He leaves his wife Joan Holden Jackson; children E. Wayne Jackson, III, wife Cindy and Ann L. Jackson, husband Derek; and seven grandchildren: Audrey, Lindsay, Nicholas and Adam Jackson, and Caroline, Jack and Sam Replogle. He was a man of many interests, but above all else was his love for his wife and his family and his concern for their well being.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests contributions to the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society, Randolph-Macon College, or Ware Episcopal Church.

A service will be held Saturday, February 1st, at 1pm at Andrews Funeral Home in Gloucester, VA, followed by a reception at Ware Church Parish House in Gloucester, VA.
