Dawna Ruth 'Dawn' Wertman, 89, was born January 19, 1934 in Norwalk, Huron, Ohio and grew up in various locations throughout Ohio. While married to Buz, she lived in Okinawa, in West Germany and in many US states, primarily Virginia. All of her children were graduates of Kecoughtan High School in Hampton. Upon retirement she lived in Bradenton, Florida; Gloucester, Virginia and finally in Anna, Texas where she passed away at the home of her daughter.
Dawna was preceded in death by her son, Daniel Jay; her husband, Homer E. 'Buz'; her brother Charles E. Orr, Jr. and her parents Charles E. and Margaret (née Wheeler) Orr. She is survived by her children, Jim (Susan), Becky Browning (Tom), Russ (Pat), and Kevin (Barbara); 23 grandchildren and 48 great-grandchildren. A closed-casket graveside service will be held at the "Garden of the Four Apostles" section of Hampton Memorial Gardens cemetery on Butler Farm Road at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, the 2nd of July. While it will be a very short service, any who desire to pay their respects are welcome to attend.
In addition to being a devoted wife, she was a loving and caring mother and grandmother to her children and many of her grand and great-grandchildren. Dawn also worked with computer systems at the Yorktown Naval Weapons Station, at Langley AFB and for the county government in Manatee, Florida. She was a 65-year member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in innumerable capacities within their Sunday School, Primary and Relief Society organizations.
