Obituary

GLOUCESTER- Connie Sue Welch, 79, passed away July 13th, 2026 after a brief illness. She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Lee Welch, parents Leonard and Louise Gunnells and brother David Gunnells.

Connie retired from Ballard and Serio of Gloucester after years as a secretary and bookkeeper in the Certified Public Accounts field. Always there to assist with any questions or in need of instruction, she had a head for business and a way with numbers.

A loving, caring, generous and dedicated wife, mother and friend, the music of her life was played loudly and boisterously through the noise, laughing and play of her grandchildren and great grandchildren of whom she held so dear in her heart and she will continue to have an impact upon all of their lives.

Connie was also a woman of faith having become a member of Providence Baptist Church in 2004. Connie gained an extended family within the church and was active in joining The Friendly Sunday School Class, Oasis and Young at Heart to further reach out and provide faith and a helping hand to others in need.

Connie is survived by her children; Victoria L Welch (Danny) and Richard L Welch Jr., grandchildren; Savannah Raye Welch Jones and husband Patrick, Richard L Welch III and Caleb Morgan Welch, great grandchildren; Ella Raye Jones and Emma Renee Jones, sisters; Jean Carroll of WV and Rachel Bartram of MI, numerous nieces and nephews that will miss their “Aunt Connie” and brother in law, Johnnie R Welch and wife Donna.

This beautiful woman, both inside and out, that we were graced to be loved by, raised by, influenced by and friends with has left us with hearts filled with the love and guidance she gave in life, she will be deeply missed.

A celebration of life service officiated by the Pastor Nate Varnadore will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 6th, 2026. Everyone is invited to the Fellowship Hall at Providence Baptist Church after the service.

In memory of Connie, donations to a charitable organization of choice can be made in her memory.
