Obituary

Charles John Szapor, 83, of Shacklefords, VA., passed away on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at his home. He was born in Passaic, NJ and was of Hungarian decent. He lived and worked in Northern and southern New Jersey for most of his life and lived in Barnegat Light, NJ for approxmately 30 years before moving to Virginia. He had a great love for fishing and boating.

He held many jobs during his life. He was a welder in shipyards, blacksmithing, owned and operated a gasoline/repair station, owned and operated a trucking company, leased to other trucking companies, drove limos for private companies including Hilton/Caesars Casinos in Atlantic City. He maintained a Captains license with the U.S. Coast Guard for many years, restored and maintained a classic wooden motorsailor, made 2 trips from New Jersey to Florida via the Intercoastal waterway, and operated a commercial towing vessel. While living in Virginia he worked for Mobjack Bay Seafood as a driver, Sanders Construction as a driver, and Crown Pointe Marina.

He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Mary Szapor, son Lewis Szapor, siblings Joe Szapor, Dennis Szapor, Rose Szumski and is survived by his wife Gail Hunter Smith, daughter Tina Richardson, siblings Ernest Szapor, Steve Szapor, Madeline C. Pyle, and Mary Lou Kiwior.
