Arthur Edward
Perra
Sep 6, 1933 — Nov 17, 2021
Gloucester
On Wednesday, November 17, 2021, Arthur Perra, loving husband and father of three passed away at the age of 88.
Arthur was born on September 6, 1933 in East Hartford, CT to Arthur and Alice Perra. After graduating high school, he entered the Air Force in March of 1953 during the Korean conflict. His time there as an airplane mechanic took him to places such as England, Okinawa, and Marrakesh.
After almost losing his life in a near-fatal car accident, he was honorably discharged from the Air Force, having served 4 years. He would remain in aviation, working at American, Eastern, and Alaska Airlines before retiring. It was at American Airlines in New York City where he would meet the love of his life, Mary Louise Jackson. They married in 1959, and for the rest of his life he would call her his "bride". Art was known by many names-Dad, Grandpa, Sonny, Artie, "Nails"-but none more important to him than the title of husband.
In addition to all things airplane related, he loved gardening, and could build, fix or create almost anything. He wouldn't hesitate to get down on the floor to play with his children and grandchildren. He was a lifelong baseball fan, and loved to watch his beloved St. Louis Cardinals play. He had a cheeky sense of humor: "I get in free because I'm so pretty, right?" was one of his favorite questions at ticket booths (and it always worked, to his delight)
Together, Arthur and Mary Lou had three children, Arthur Edward Perra Ill (Marianne), Suzanne Marie Scott (Randall} and Jon Michael Perra (Colleen). They were blessed with six grandchildren, Taylor Jackson, Jordan Abell, Morgan Marie, Kelly Marie, Ethan Arthur, and Chloe Elizabeth, and one great grandchild, Jackson Joseph.
Arthur was preceded in death by his father, Arthur, his mother, Alice as well as four of his five siblings, Adelaide, Omar, Ray, and Jeannette. He is survived by his sister Eleanor.
There will a celebration of life later at the home of his daughter in Gloucester, Virginia.
