Anthony Joseph Sinisi, 79, of Gloucester, VA, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family after battling Parkinson's for several years on Tuesday, January 30, 2024. Born in Newark, NJ, on November 28, 1944, "Tony" enlisted in the US Air Force and met his wife at Travis Air Force Base, CA and then moved to NJ. He attended the Academy of Advanced Traffic Management in Manhattan, NY. Tony worked at the Military Ocean Terminal in Bayonne, NJ (MOTBY) until they closed the base and transferred him to Fort Eustis, VA in 1999. He worked as a Civilian Employee for the US Army for 29 years, before retiring. In his tenure, he received many awards for saving the Government millions of dollars in transportation fees.
He was a complete family man who loved to make home-made breakfast and delicious Italian dishes. In the Summer, you could find him cooking on the grill for family and friends alike or lounging in a pool or at the beach, making jokes and telling stories. Tony always brought life and laughter to any occasion, and would often watch TV and play games with his grandchildren. He had a way of making everyone feel welcome, and thrived in any social environment. No one ever was a stranger around him, and his charismatic personality was a light that attracted everyone. His endearing and distinct voice could easily fill a room, and those closest to him would tease him about his loud, Italian disposition (I'm not yelling, I'm just Italian!). Tony was a lover of Elvis, who most people claim he resembled, and he loved watching movies and television shows. He was an only child but was extremely close to his cousins - they were more like siblings!
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Mary L Sinisi (Sebeck), four children; Frank Sinisi (Francine) of FL, Tony Peter Barone (Jen) of NJ, Anthony C Sinisi (Andrea) of Staten Island and Angela Sinisi-Haynes (MSG Brandon), and 4 grandchildren; Alanis Bonesteel (Macy), Marina Mayes, Hayley Haynes and Anthony J Sinisi. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 am on Saturday, Feb 3, at The Church of St Therese Catholic Church, 6262 Main Street in Gloucester, VA with a reception to follow.
